THE SCIENCE BEHIND M3DATEK
Wound healing involves two processes: tissue repair (structural proliferation of connective tissue) and tissue regeneration (functionality of the cells with the production of the lost extracellular matrix). In such a context, our product meets several challenges: the 3D printing is able to confer, in a strictly controlled and reproducible manner, a dedicated geometry to the biomaterial, to produce a dressing that addresses an orderly and timely reparative process of tissue repair; it presents controlled biodegradation and transpirancy; it could contain drugs with controlled distribution and release; no toxic materials are used. Moreover the technology offers the possibility to produce different products, as well as the use of other biopolymers such as collagen or hyaluronic and the whole manufacturing process can be easily transferred to an industrial scale.
THE INNOVATION OF M3DATEK
M3DATEK is proposing innovative 3D printed tissue repair therapies, suitable to help the healing of chronic wounds, through bio-absorbable chitosan-based dressing. The strength of the technology beyond the product lies in the integration of biomaterial competences, that lead to a patented material [EP 2115011] with improved cytocompatibility features, with industrial engineering, that allows the manufacturing of the material by a 3D printer and selected printing geometries (under patent evaluation), developed in the laboratories of the University of Parma.
